Surgical Treatments

When symptoms are more significant or when non-surgical treatments have not provided sufficient relief, surgical procedures may be recommended. All procedures at Genesis are performed by experienced specialists using safe, well-established techniques. Surgery is always discussed in detail with the patient before any decision is made.

Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes or reduces the size of the labia minora (inner vaginal lips). Enlarged or asymmetrical labia can cause physical discomfort during exercise, daily activities, or intimacy, and may also affect a woman's confidence.

Women may choose this procedure for:

•    Relief from physical discomfort or chafing

•    Functional improvement during physical activity

•    Improved comfort during intimacy

•    Personal aesthetic preference

The procedure is usually done under local or general anaesthesia and takes about 1 to 2 hours. Recovery is typically straightforward, with most women returning to light activities within a week.

Vaginal Tightening Surgery (Vaginoplasty)

Vaginoplasty strengthens and tightens vaginal muscles and tissues that may have loosened due to childbirth, ageing, or hormonal changes. The procedure repairs and tightens the muscles at the back of the vaginal wall to restore tone and improve vaginal support.

This procedure may help women who experience:

•    Vaginal laxity after one or more vaginal deliveries

•    Reduced vaginal sensation or satisfaction

•    Discomfort or reduced confidence related to vaginal looseness

Recovery usually takes 4 to 6 weeks, during which strenuous activity and intimacy should be avoided. Most women are very satisfied with the results once fully healed.

Perineal Repair (Perineoplasty)

Perineoplasty corrects damage or scarring to the perineum, the area between the vagina and anus. This area is commonly affected during childbirth through tears or episiotomy cuts, and scarring can cause tightness, discomfort, or irregular tissue in the area.

This damage may occur due to:

•    Childbirth tears or episiotomy scars

•    Injury to the perineal area

•    Previous surgical scars causing tightness or discomfort

The procedure removes scar tissue, repairs the muscles, and reconstructs the perineal area. Recovery usually takes 4 to 6 weeks. Women typically find significant improvement in comfort and function after healing.

Prolapse Repair

Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when organs such as the uterus, bladder, or rectum move downward from their normal position because the pelvic floor muscles and supporting tissues have weakened. This can cause a feeling of heaviness, bulging, urinary problems, or difficulty with bowel movements.

Prolapse repair surgery helps restore these organs to their correct position and repairs the weakened supporting tissues. The type of surgery recommended depends on which organ is affected and the severity of the prolapse. Common procedures include:

•    Anterior repair (bladder prolapse)

•    Posterior repair (bowel prolapse)

•    Uterine suspension or hysterectomy (uterine prolapse)

•    Vault repair (after previous hysterectomy)

Recovery time varies depending on the extent of repair, but most women return to normal activities within 6 to 8 weeks. Long-term results are very good, particularly when combined with ongoing pelvic floor exercises.
